Why Chiron?
Chiron was the most exceptional of the centaurs — the only immortal one, and the only one defined not by the wild violence typical of centaurs but by wisdom, medicine, and the teaching of heroes. He was the tutor of Achilles, Jason, Asclepius, and Heracles. He didn't seek great deeds himself. He produced the people who performed great deeds. When Heracles accidentally wounded him with a poisoned arrow, Chiron — being immortal — couldn't die from the wound. He eventually gave up his immortality to end the suffering, sacrificing himself for Prometheus's release.
